The Rare Music Curator presents podcast #28
Where’s My Drink? The music of John Fahey

This month’s feature is on guitarist John Fahey, ( 1939-2001) purveyor of solo acoustic guitar. This program was sourced from two separate concerts and basically alternates between them. There are a couple of notable glitches and rough spots including a very loud start to the second song and a digital glitching that made me fade out song #6 early. Fahey himself tunes up during the songs at times.
As always this program is for the personal use of enthusiasts only and never to be sold. If you do not own any John Fahey recordings I suggest you obtain some of his commercially available recordings. There are lots of good ones to choose from.

Bill Frisell: A Man For All Seasons

Frisell will need no introduction to any fan of the guitar. His ability to go from restraint to full out wailing is well known and his career has included recording and live sessions with too many artists to list. Born in 1951, Bill Frisell is perhaps the guitarist that best exemplifies the meaning of taste and consummate musicianship. Gateway: The Music Of John Abercrombie

Since the early 1970’s John Abercrombie has been one of my favorite guitarists. Early in his career he was sort of overshadowed by fusion figures such as John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola on one hand and more straight ahead jazz guitarists like Pat Metheny on the other. However, Abercrombie has continued to issue superb albums over the years and his live gigs can be spacey, introspective or just plain incendiary.
If you don’t know much about him you can start with his wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Abercrombie_(guitarist)

Or go to his own site:
http://www.johnabercrombie.com/

I highly suggest you pick up some of his albums if you don’t own them already. This podcast features unreleased live performances and is only for the personal pleasure of enthusiasts. This material is never for sale. I hope you enjoy this remarkable guitarist and his bands.
